Mexico holds significant opportunities for Utah’s economic growth. Currently, $1.5 billion flows across the U.S. and Mexico border on a daily basis; Utah is currently exporting a mere $500 million per year to Mexico, ranking Utah at #37 in the United States in exports to Mexico.  The purpose of this summit is to capitalize on these measures and the unique, economically motivating events that are taking place in Utah which highlight our commitment and capacity to make legitimate gains in improving our relationship with Mexico. These events include:

  • The appointment of Eduardo Arnal as Mexican Consul General to Utah
  • The U.S. – Mexico Chamber of Commerce (USMCOC) selection of Salt Lake City to host the new Intermountain Chapter, beating out NV, CO, WY, and ID
  • The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce selection to host their annual conference in Salt Lake City during the fall of 2014
  • The Global Spotlight on Mexico partnership between the University of Utah and Utah Valley University for the 2013-2014 academic year
  • The University of Utah’s 2014 Siciliano Forum focus on U.S.-Mexico relations and immigration
