Job-hunting? Utah is helping. Several state agencies are collaborating to support an active, productive and thriving workforce. Highlighting the success of collaboration, just last week 24/7 Wall Street ranked Utah as the third best state for the unemployed. With a high rate of economic growth and low unemployment, it takes Utahns on average only 13.4 weeks to find a new job.

“We want to make sure that job seekers have quality employment opportunities,” said Theresa Foxley, managing director of corporate recruitment and incentives at the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED). “We actively recruit the finest businesses to expand in or relocate to Utah and create new jobs.”

According to most recent economic indicators, Utah’s economy for the past five months continues to grow at 4 percent, outpacing the national average of 2.2 percent. By actively engaging private industry, GOED has identified workforce development as the direct pathway to more jobs for more people. With education in key fields, such as technology manufacturing, unemployment remains at national lows.

“We’re working closely with a number of educators, state agencies and major companies to bring an exciting education initiative to Utah’s student body,” said Todd Bingham, president and CEO of the Utah Manufacturers Association. “A sustainable workforce needs a pipeline of young, intelligent, minds with the proper skills to power our high-tech workforce.”

By working smarter, Utah will lead the nation as the best performing economy and premier global business environment. With the foundation and creation of unique partnerships, options continue to become available for skilled, active job seekers.
