Governor’s Outdoor Recreation Summit

One year after selling out the inaugural Utah Outdoor Recreation Summit in 2014, the Office of Outdoor Recreation has coalesced a powerful group of local and national industry leaders to discuss Utah’s influential recreation economy.

The Utah Outdoor Recreation Summit took place on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the Salt Palace.. At the 2015 summit, Governor Gary R. Herbert welcomed Jerry Stritzke – the CEO of REI, Ivan Levin – Senior Director of the Outdoor Nation, mountaineer/consultant/writer Chris Warner, and the 2014 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year – Stacy Bare.

Of the many topics covered, some highlights included exploring why Utah has become a hub for outdoor manufacturers and distributors; what is a rural cycling adventure; and why is it so important to motivate kids to become active early in life. Other topics addressed included the secret to Utah State Park’s evolution into a nationwide leader in park management and the lessons that can be learned from the Outdoor Retailer show.

As the first Office of Outdoor Recreation in the nation, Utah is placing great emphasis becoming the nationwide leader in recreation infrastructure enhancement, management and growth. More outdoor related businesses are moving to Utah than ever.  More people are recreating than ever.  And there is a greater reliance on our unique natural lands than ever.
