PTAC Announces New Regional Manager for Utah County

Pete CodellaNews

Utah County companies who are looking to expand their sales market need look no further than Stephen (Steve) Lyon for help. As of October 21, Lyon joins Utah’s Procurement Technical Assistant Centers (PTAC) team as a regional manager to assist Central Utah clients in obtaining federal, state and local government contracts.

Lyon works from the PTAC office at Utah Valley University Business Resource Center located at 815 West 1250 South in Orem. Lyon is responsible for assisting small to mid-sized companies in Utah County, as well as many of the smaller counties in southeastern, south central, and southwestern Utah. The primary objective is to lead companies in finding, bidding on, and winning government contracts as a way to expand the marketing and sales of client companies.

Most recently, he was employed by Mountainland Aging and Family Services in Orem. For three years, he developed resources to support services for aging adults served by the Mountainland Aging and Family Services department. His experience includes grant writing, development of strategic partnerships in the community and in overseeing the Mountainland Foundation. His grant writing experience will be very beneficial to Central Utah clients.

In a business partnership, Lyon directed support for a business including a fish farm for Tilplan. He was involved in most aspects of the business management—including developing presentations and analyzing and documenting results for the business venture.

Lyon has a Masters of Public Administration, a B.A. in History and a B.A. in German, all from the University of Utah.

PTAC had its best results ever as the state fiscal year ended on June 30 with over $700 million in contracts reported by clients. The PTAC department of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) is funded by a federal grant from the Department of Defense and with matching funds from GOED as approved by the Legislature.

Utah County companies who are interested in speaking with Mr. Lyon, should attend the  9th Annual PTAC Symposium on October 23. The event will be held at the SouthTowne Expo Center in Sandy, where more than 500 small business owners and representatives will participate in two breakout training sessions and hear presentations by Governor Gary R. Herbert, Joshua Frank of RSM Federal and Karen Gunn of Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program.

Participants will also have the opportunity to network with representatives from sixty large companies and government agencies with contracting officers present who are available to discuss possible contracts and subcontracting opportunities.

Lyon replaces Cory Holley, who departed in mid-September to return to the private sector.

Contact Steve Lyon after October 21 at (801) 863-8713 or at slyon@utah.gov. Additional information about PTAC and its mission is found at business.utah.gov/PTAC.
