The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently announced an additional investment of $2 billion over the next two years to support broadband development in schools and libraries. The additional $2 billion will double the FCC’s investment in broadband networks and will connect 20 million students in 15,000 schools. This funding is provided to schools and libraries through the E-Rate program. This program has been essential in providing schools and libraries basic Internet services throughout the nation.

With the increase in funding, the FCC will be able to provide more assistance to schools and libraries, helping to lower prices and address urgent upgrade needs. This investment will help to reach the goal of enabling 99 percent of America’s students to have high-speed Internet connections within 5 years.
