Celebrating Utah Partnerships
At Chevron, we believe that we thrive when our community thrives. And few factors are more important to the future success of communities than preparing the population to meet the opportunities of tomorrow. That’s why we cultivate partnerships with nonprofit organizations like the Davis Education Foundation.
Through a longstanding partnership with the Davis Education Foundation, the Chevron Salt Lake Refinery has helped fund environmental science grants, teacher recognition awards, and Project Lead The Way programs at twenty-two elementary schools in the Davis School District.
The Chevron Refinery also helps sponsor the Davis School District STEM Fair and Science Olympiad. Our employees act as volunteer judges and enjoy the opportunity to create excitement about STEM for local students.
Chevron Refinery employees also like to roll up their sleeves in support of local schools. In September of 2021, Chevron partnered with the Davis Education Foundation and District to plant fifty trees at Meadowbrook Elementary School in Bountiful, to support the creation of an outdoor learning space.
And new for the 2021-2022 year, the Chevron Refinery has partnered with the Davis Education Foundation on the launch of a grant program to help establish Multicultural Student Advisory Committees at local schools. The grants provide resources intended to help build cultural awareness, empathy, and respect among students in Davis School District.
In addition to providing support for local students, the Chevron Refinery helps create workforce pathways for students across the state. Through its partnership with the Governor’s Office of Energy Development, the Chevron Refinery provides scholarships for high school seniors and first-year college students who are pursuing STEM courses at universities, colleges, and trade schools in Utah. More than $135,000 in scholarships have been awarded since 2016 to help advance Utah’s future energy workforce.
Mont Harmon's Successful turnaround was well underway when Brainstorm got involved. Heroes including Principal Allred and Renee Banasky were responsible for the dramatic change and Brainstorm has supported the momentum and trajectory of the local efforts"- Derek Adams, CTO, Brainstorm Inc.
In an effort to support the cultural change championed by Mont Harmon's leadership, Brainstorm devotes time to sponsor Tech Fairs, one-day events where all 8th-grade students rotate through hands-on and interactive stations where students explore topics related to graphic design, coding, video editing, circuit building, VR and film making. Brainstorm employees have given time to visit classrooms offering interactive stations intended to spark imagination and vision for students. Stations focused on creative writing, storytelling, data science, and animation.
In addition to these interactions, Brainstorm has been invited to address classes where employees speak about career opportunities, life lessons and advise students while leaving room for students to interact and ask questions.
Brainstorm, Inc. has supported multiple reading programs over several years, where efforts included creating videos to promote reading, sponsoring gifts for student accomplishments, and creating Between the Lines- a competition where students submitted creative works based on their favorite book. To support this effort judges, logistics, and awards assemblies were managed and sponsored by Brainstorm.
In partnership with Mont Harmon, Brainstorm has piloted an online tech class offered to students multiple times throughout the school semester to serve students remotely. From 3D printing to HTML coding, students created their own board games, modeled characters from books, and worked as a team to develop a fully functional website.
While Brainstorm has enjoyed visiting Mont Harmon, they also look forward to coordinating and hosting field trips for students to visit multiple tech companies in a day at the heart of Silicon Slopes.

Skill Up For High School Students
Tech Sales Pathway (TSP)
The TSP delivers industry skill-based learning for high school students to extend classroom instruction through a comprehensive work-based learning experience that prepares students for a career in the tech sales industry on their career and college-ready pathway to personal success. In partnership with Talent Ready Utah, the Utah State Board of Education, Davis, Ogden, and Weber School Districts, Weber State University, Ogden Weber Technical College, and Davis Technical college MarketStar creates a space for students to learn and explore careers in tech sales through internship opportunities that support classroom learning.
Skill Up High School Sales Skills Challenge
The Weber State University High School Sales Skills Challenge is a strategic community growth activity funded by MarketStar Foundation. The program connects high school students with enriched learning experiences that develop sales skills, increase awareness of careers in professional selling and create student experiences that cultivate an affinity to careers in tech sales. Students have the opportunity to compete individually and in teams, where judges can provide feedback and encouragement to students. The Utah High School Sales Skills Challenge will support the newly launched Tech Sales Pathways program in Northern Utah where 16 high schools participate across Davis, Ogden, and Weber School Districts.
MarketStar Student Resource Center for Student Success
Pack the Pantry is part of a student and family resource center committed to fueling student success by providing access to the food and basic necessities students need to succeed. The MarketStar Student Resource Center, created through collaboration with MarketStar Foundation, Ogden School Foundation, and Ogden School District, is available for Ogden students in immediate need of short-term support with school supplies, food, clothing, hygiene, and cleaning items. K-6 Leadership Development
In 2018 Weber School District began implementing the Leader in Me program at Roosevelt Elementary school. The Principal was passionate about what the program would do for students and bootstrapped the funding for the curriculum and teacher training. The program showed an immediate impact on student outcomes in the two years with a 34% decrease in student discipline incidents as well as significant increases in School Measureable Results proficiency increase in leadership, culture, and academics. This case study moved the district to increase adoption and with the support of the Weber School Foundation 12 schools began the Leader in Me program implementation. With staffing and funding barriers to expansion, Weber School District was invited to make a proposal to the Dell Loy Hansen Family Foundation and the MarketStar Foundation for support to enable program implementation and growth. With the work and investment from educators and support of Weber School District, the Dell Loy Hansen Family Foundation and the MarketStar Foundation built an expanding education partnership and agreed to a 5-year, $1.26 million commitment to empower the resources needed to continue the implementation, staffing and expansion costs of the Leader in Me program throughout all 29 elementary schools in Weber School District.
Tools For Schools
At MarketStar, education is seen as a catalyst for personal growth where teachers hold the keys to unlocking learning. Teachers need tools to construct experiences that inspire and ignite student potential. The Tools for Schools program, MarketStar aims to inspire growth as learners and teachers of learners by funding creative classroom supplies for teachers to enrich their students.

The Medical Innovations Pathways program is a collaborative partnership between companies from the Lifescience industry and education to promote career exploration in medical device manufacturing and testing. The MIP program is a banded coalition of businesses and educators who coordinate together to better link classroom learning to real life. Through job shadows, MIP students have the opportunity to explore careers with BioFire, BD, Biomerics, Edwards Lifesciences, Fresenius Medical Care, Merit Medical, Nelson Labs, PolarityTe, Sintx, Stryker, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and Varex Imaging. Partnered school districts include Canyons, Davis, Granite, Jordan, Murray, and Tooele County. Together, education and industry partners plan and coordinate opportunities to host student visits and classroom visits to promote exploration and increase access to employment opportunities by providing an avenue to earning a guaranteed job interview as a MIP graduate.
In partnership with Salt Lake City School District, Salt Lake Foundation, Salt Lake Community College, and Talent Ready Utah, Stadler Rail offer a youth apprenticeship adopted from the Swiss model of apprenticeship. This innovative apprenticeship program serves high school students by providing valuable hands-on learning and application of skills in a real work setting.
Students from Salt Lake City School District split their time between the classroom and Stadler Rail as they begin earning credit towards their Associate of Applied Science degree from Salt Lake Community College. As part of this apprenticeship, Stadler Rail provides students with mentoring and a system of support as apprentices work to complete their college degree, earning a wage without the burden of paying for their education.
In coordination with the Salt Lake Foundation, students are provided lunch and transportation to ensure their success, and while students are practicing skills learned in the classroom, Stadler Rail has the opportunity to encourage students along their educational and professional path.
Whitaker Construction's vision is to Build the Best: People, Communities and Future. Whitaker adopts a “Diverse Pipeline Strategy” focused on identifying talent pools within the state of Utah and establishing partnership pipelines to engage and educate the rising generation of the benefits found in construction careers. Whitaker has developed community partnerships with CTE and Work-Based Learning programs within high schools across Utah to support and promote educational and work-based learning programs. Between classroom visits, conference presentations, virtual field trips, counselor luncheons, internships, and guest speakers, Whitaker provides students with opportunities to learn and explore careers in construction. Ogden School District was privileged to have Jake Hinckley of Whitaker Construction dedicate his workday to our students as he traveled throughout the district speaking to classes in four different high schools. He started the day at Ogden High where he delivered a well-received presentation on the importance of networking and staying connected in order to build a productive career in our modern world. Next he traveled to George Washington High where he tailored his presentation to a construction class as he expounded upon the opportunities that exist within a variety of construction professions. Jake provided a similar presentation to students at our Youth In Care school, Malan’s Peak, offering a pathway of hope and a second chance to students working through challenging circumstances. Jake concluded his day at Ben Lomond High, where he once again gave the students exactly what they needed by offering a Career and Technical Education class invaluable advice on career building.

The Utah Aerospace Pathways program is a multi industry-education partnership serving seven school districts spread across the state of Utah. ACT Aerospace, Albany, Boeing Company, Hexcel, Hill Air Force Base, Janicki Industries, Kihomac, MSC Aerospace, Northrop Grumman, and Parker Aerospace collectively support classroom visits and externship opportunities promoting career exploration. Together with partnering schools, educators and industry representatives actively coordinate and organize efforts to train students' in valuable skill sets leading to rewarding career opportunities.
The UAP program launched in 2015 and continues to grow year after year serving students from Davis, Granite, Iron County, South Sanpete, Tooele County, Ogden, and Weber School Districts. With each new school year, industry and education partners devote time and resources to supporting this long-term partnership to offer students increased access to careers and opportunities to explore and discover their interests and talents.
Utah’s Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Pathway is a certificate program geared toward students interested in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction fields. The capstone experience of this work-based learning program is placement as an intern with a local Architecture, Engineering, or Construction company. This program is designed to benefit student learners while addressing the labor shortages in the construction industry.
The UAEC pathway program promotes local partnerships between businesses and education to offer students a space for career exploration and a connection to employers offering employment opportunities and support for continued education. Students enrolled in the UAEC pathway earn stackable credentials that lead to additional education programs and also provide students with a guaranteed job interview with industry partners.
This collaborative effort is driven by more than 100 partnerships comprised of businesses, trade associations, secondary and post-secondary education partnerships throughout Northern Utah. Partnering employers engage with students during Design-Build Day, an event hosted by Weber State University annually where students learn from and interact with employers who are who are offering opportunities to apply for internships.
The Utah Diesel Tech Pathways program is a multi industry-education partnership offering high school students opportunities for career exploration and an avenue to begin their journey to be a part of a rewarding career as a diesel technician. Industry partnerships established throughout the state work together to offer students scholarship opportunities, job shadowing experiences for exploration and support high school students along their path to earn a Deisel Technician certification from Utah's technical or community colleges. Paid intern programs, on-the-job training, and extended educational opportunities with Utah technical colleges are all a part of fulfilling careers in the diesel industry. Education partnerships collaborate with industry partnerships to ensure students are gaining relevant skill sets taught in the classroom and facilitate connections between Diesel Tech students and employers.
The Utah Diesel Tech Pathways program and its industry partners have banded together to create a 501(c)(3) to offer qualified and interested students an opportunity to pursue a scholarship award to provide a student with tools to use on the job as they pursue their career in the Diesel industry.
The Diesel Tech pathways program represents over 100 partnerships between education and industry devoted to driving student success and access to valuable education and employment opportunities.
The Utah Rotor Pathways program brings together industry, universities, and high schools to provide both helicopter pilot and maintenance training to high school students. Industry partners offer high school students added benefits such as mentoring, internships, and job interviews upon completion of college-level aviation programs. High School students begin earning college credit while learning skills specific to rotor aviation flight training through hands-on learning experiences.
Utah Rotor industry partners band together to offer real-world learning to students and networking opportunities with professional operators to begin working towards a career in aviation.
