Local Internet Service Provider Beehive Broadband has partnered with the Salt Lake Bees to offer a student recognition program for local elementary-aged students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Teachers within the Granite, Salt Lake, Jordan and Tooele School Districts were encouraged to nominate students to be recognized as the Beehive Broadband Student-of-the-Game.

“The great thing about this program,” said Beehive Broadband President, Scott Wilson, “is that students may be nominated for any number of reasons, not simply academic success, as is so often the case.  Students who may otherwise be overlooked may be recognized for reaching a personal goal, being a leader in the classroom, perfect attendance, being quick to help others—whatever the teacher felt the student did that deserved being noticed.”

Of the hundreds of nominations received, 18 students were selected as the Beehive Broadband Student-of-the-Game to be recognized at one of 18 games during the upcoming Salt Lake Bees season.  Each student received tickets to a Salt Lake Bees game, and the opportunity to come on field during the game and have the nomination from their teacher read over the PA system.  While on field, the winner is able to participate in a speed-pitch competition against the Salt Lake Bee’s mascot, Bumble, and have their picture taken with the iconic bee.  Each student is also presented with a Beehive Broadband Student-of-the-Game trophy and personalized prize, based on interests that the parents provided when scheduling their game.

Tom Redd submitted a nomination for one of the students recognized.  “I believe you have changed the life of a boy for the better.  What a wonderful organization you are to have taken the time to recognize individuals and to help this young boy become more than he could be!  I am so grateful that organizations and people like you are so willing to recognize today’s children in such positive ways.  Some of them need all the support and encouragement they can get.  Thanks for your part in changing his life!”

Said Wilson, “Hearing positive feedback confirms the importance of supporting programs like this that give back to the community.  It may not be a wide-spread effort with long-lasting effects, but for the children honored, it creates a memory that will last a lifetime, and to me, that’s worth it.”
