Chanel Flores, industry director for the advanced manufacturing and aerospace and defense targeted industries at the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), is a winner of the SAMPE 2020 Young Professionals Emerging Leadership Award.

The award recognizes the achievements of young professionals by sending application finalists to the SAMPE North America technical conference and exhibition to network with peers and industry professionals, and to increase their understanding of the materials and process community.

“This is a well-deserved recognition for Chanel, said Ryan Starks, GOED’s managing director of business services. “Her work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to deliver excellent work are well known by her coworkers and peers. It is only fitting that she now be recognized by the industry for her many significant contributions. GOED and the state of Utah are very fortunate to have Chanel on our team.”

Flores continues to make her mark by collaborating with industry leaders and government officials to bridge the gap between the public and private sectors.

Flores’s most notable accomplishments, since joining GOED in 2017, include: being instrumental in the decision to add the advanced manufacturing industry, as the 7th strategic cluster for the State of Utah, leading efforts around the future of urban air mobility in Utah and collaborating efforts to conduct an Economic Impact Study analyzing aviation-enabled economic development potential in communities.

Due to the cancellation of SAMPE 2020 in Seattle, WA, the award finalists will be recognized via an online awards ceremony in early November and will be formally recognized at SAMPE 2021 in Long Beach, California where the finalists for both 2020 and 2021 will be recognized during an in-person event to be announced at a later date.
