Governor Herbert announced the event’s theme, Innovate Utah!, and praised the local economy, saying, “New ideas and a strong entrepreneurial spirit help Utah’s economy stand out, but it’s collaboration that helps it truly succeed. The summit provides an opportunity both for learning and creating connections and partnerships across industries and interests.”

The summit, presented by Zion’s Bank and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), is expected to attract more than 1,200 business and community leaders, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and students.  Pierre Lassonde will deliver the keynote speech, discussing his background and offering insight on strategic entrepreneurship.  Mr. Lassonde is founder and chair of Franco-Nevada Corporation and founder of the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the University of Utah.

Breakout sessions will cover a number of themes, including: Investment, It’s About People, Innovation, Strategic Management and Cool Tech.  Aside from the many presentations designed to appeal to executives and small business owners, broadband stakeholders might appreciate “Cool Tech” presentations about the future of travel and digital entertainment.  The summit provides an opportunity to celebrate Utah’s rankings as No. 1 Best State for Business by Forbes and Pollina Corporate’s No. 1 Pro-Business State,

A panel featuring four ‘Shark Tank’ entrepreneurs will allow these Utah locals to discuss not only their unique experience on the ABC reality show, but also share insights about getting innovative ideas funded.  ‘Shark Tank’ alumni scheduled to participate include David Toledo with Power Practical, Pat Crowley with Chapul, Susan Petersen with Freshly Picked and Peter Thorpe with FireAvert.

Val Hale, Executive Director of GOED, said, “It’s fitting that we apply a philosophy of innovation to the structure and offerings of the summit every year.  I genuinely believe our 10th anniversary Utah Economic Summit will be unlike anything we’ve done before. It is always our goal for it to be a highly inclusive, collaborative and engaging experience for attendees.”
