During the Utah Rural Summit in Cedar City on August 11-12, former U.S. Senator Bob Bennett stressed the important role technology has in creating a global community and economy. He described the emergence of digital code and emphasized the importance of the information age to both the developed and developing worlds.
In his speech, he referenced Moore’s Law which states that every 18 years, computing power will double. “If you are computer illiterate, you are in as much trouble in this world as if you were English Illiterate, as if you could not read or write,” Bennett said.
He noted than even in developing nations like Mozambique, cell phones are being used to distribute vital information, including sending out text messages to notify people where vaccinations will be available.
