The Utah Broadband Project will use the funding to expand broadband mapping and planning efforts in the State.
The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced this week that our project will receive a supplemental grant award in the amount of $3.1 million.
“I am excited to support the Utah Broadband Project, which is important because it will provide a clear map to assess the unserved and underserved areas in the State,” Governor Herbert said. “This is yet another milestone in a series of milestones to strengthen economic development opportunities in Utah, not only in our rural areas, but across the entire State.”
With the additional funding, the Project will extend its lifespan from two years to five years; support a research survey on broadband demand and Internet usage; provide for local outreach related to increasing broadband adoption; establish one additional staff member to support the existing project staff; identify and implement best practices related to data collection, integration, and validation; and leverage state-to-county relationships and Utah’s 911 Committee to develop a statewide address file.
