Utah: Fastest Internet in the West

Utah has the fastest average internet connection speed in the West.  According to the “First Quarter, 2013 State of the Internet“ report, released today by Akamai Technologies, Utah ranked number 5 overall, but was the only Western state in the top ten.  Utah also ranked in the top ten for average peak connection speed–again, the only Western state to break into the top ten ranking.ave peak connection speed by state 7-2013

The Report also highlighted other global metrics on broadband.  Of the 117 countries measured, the global average connection speed rose 4 percent to 3.1 Mbps (up from 2.9 Mbps) and global average peak connection speeds increased 9.2 percent to 18.4 Mbps (We’re at an average peak of 41.9 Mbps in Utah).

On the mobile broadband front, the Report indicates that the volume of mobile data traffic doubled from the first quarter of 2012 to the first quarter of 2013, and grew 19 percent between the fourth quarter of 2012 and the first quarter of 2013.
