Midtown Community Health Center (MCHC) already had an excellent relationship with Ogden-Weber Technical College (OWTC), and that strong relationship has paid off in spades amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

The college donated isolation gowns, adult ear-loop masks, safety glasses, disinfectant wipes, disposable lab coats and face shields. These items will serve a community at a time when protective equipment cannot be found. Because the equipment was donated, Midtown can use its limited financial resources in other critical areas.

“The PPE has allowed us to continue testing and providing much-needed services to our community members, specifically the underserved and vulnerable populations,” said Alicia Martinez, CEO at Midtown Community Health Center.

Midtown’s mission is to provide medical services to individuals and families in our communities who face barriers of geography, culture, language and economic or insurance status. It is a safety net provider; a large percentage of its patients are uninsured and would otherwise go without care.

“They didn’t wait to be asked,” said James R. Taggart, president of Ogden-Weber Technical College. “They know that it is our mission to build a prosperous community and help wherever they can. They have great leadership and collaboration, and service to others is a core value.”
