The Utah Industry and Innovation Center congratulates three Utah companies who were recently selected to receive SBIR awards from NASA. The Phase I awards won by Elphel, Inc., HiFunda, and InnoSys, Inc. will allow the companies to move forward with the development of their next generation innovations. The highly competitive programs offer non-equity position funds specifically for the research and development of new technologies.
Elphel, Inc. worked with the Utah Industry and Innovation Center on their NASA SBIR submission, Long-Range Thermal 3D Perception in Low Contrast Environments, led by Principal Investigator and CEO, Dr. Andrey Filippov.
“The Center guided our work to assure a compelling proposal,” said Olga Filippova, Elphel COO. “They helped us understand how to best meet the needs of NASA and that they recognized the innovation in our work and our ability to move into the marketplace.”
This is the third SBIR-STTR win for Elphel. They previously won a Phase I contract with the Air Force, and received a second Phase I SBIR contract through the Air Force AFWERX’s program in February 2021.
All three companies have worked with the Utah Industry and Innovation Center in their pursuits of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) funding, taking advantage of workshops, sample materials and direct assistance on proposal elements. The services are offered by the Center free of charge to qualified Utah small businesses.
The Utah Industry and Innovation Center has served Utah companies for over 12 years, with nearly twice the national win rate. The Center received the prestigious Tibbetts Award, an honor bestowed by the Small Business Administration to companies and organizations with meritorious work in the program.
