The “Create In Utah” bill, approved by the Utah Legislature during its June 18-19, 2020, special session, provides $9 million in grants to arts organizations with annual budgets of more than $5 million. Funding for H.B. 5010 comes from the federal CARES Act and is targeted to promote travel, tourism and cultural experiences in Utah.

“This is a win-win for all of Utah’s theaters, museums, art galleries and other cultural organizations,” said Vicki Bourns, the director of the Utah Division of Arts & Museums. “Many organizations are suffering because of business closures and canceled events. This funding will provide the needed support.”

Applications for the grant open July 13 and close on July 27, 2020. Applications will be reviewed by a committee made up of Arts & Museums staff and board members, as well as key leaders in the cultural community. Expenditures must be made by December 31, 2020.

Organizations granted money through this program are not eligible to receive additional funding through Arts & Museums during the state’s 2021 fiscal year.
