Following the recent release of Phase I SBIR/STTR Topics, the Department of Energy (DOE) has issued its FY 2022 Phase I Release 1 Funding Opportunity Announcement (DE-FOA-0002554) for the SBIR and STTR Programs. The DOE encourages qualified small businesses with strong research capabilities in science or engineering in any of the research areas of the announcement to apply.
The following DOE program offices are participating in this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA):
- Advanced Scientific Computing Research
- Basic Energy Sciences
- Biological and Environmental Research
- Nuclear Physics
To download the FOA: go to Grants.gov and search by keying in “DE-FOA-0002554” under “FUNDING OPPORTUNITY NUMBER”. The FOA Instructions and Application Package can also be downloaded.
Important Dates
- Letter of Intent – due August 30, 2021: The DOE requires a Letter of Intent in order for a small business concern to be eligible to submit a Phase I application. Letters of Intent must be submitted to the DOE Portfolio Analysis and Management System (PAMS) by August 30, 2021 3:00 pm MT. - Grant Applications – due October 12, 2021: All Phase I applications for both SBIR and STTR programs must be submitted through the Grants.gov web portal by October 12, 2021 9:59 pm MT. Please visit the applicant resource page and SBIR online learning site for assistance in preparing your application.
Important Reminders
- First-time applicants to DOE SBIR/STTR: DOE offers a free Phase 0 application assistance program to a limited number of first-time DOE SBIR/STTR Phase I applicants. Review your eligibility and apply here.
- Applying with Grants.gov: A number of registrations are required prior to submitting your application. It is recommended to start this process at least 6 weeks in advance of submitting your application (an online tutorial is available). Also note you must update your SAM registration each year (for previous applicants). If you have any questions about the SAM process, please contact the Grants.gov Help Desk at 1-800-518-4726.
