The Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO) is proud to announce the appointment of GOEO executive director Jefferson Moss to the Utah Nuclear Consortium. Moss brings extensive experience in economic development in both the public and private sectors to the role, as well as a background in policy, academia, and business innovation.
The Utah Nuclear Consortium, established in H.B. 249 and managed by the Utah Office of Energy Development (OED), provides a framework for nuclear energy development and planning in Utah. As the state’s lead office for advancing economic growth and bringing economic prosperity to all Utah communities, Moss’ appointment will strengthen the goals of Operation Gigawatt by aligning economic development with energy infrastructure projects. It will also increase collaboration between GOEO and OED, optimizing the state’s efforts to ensure reliable, abundant, and affordable energy.
“Advancing energy abundance is key to powering Utah’s future,” said Gov. Cox. “Jefferson’s appointment to the Utah Nuclear Energy Consortium will fuel responsible economic growth, while the deepening of the GOEO-OED partnership brings together expertise from across state government to cement our role as a national leader in energy-economic innovation and growth.”
“GOEO is committed to helping Gov. Cox and OED reach the bold vision of Operation Gigawatt,” said Jefferson Moss, executive director of GOEO. “As technology and AI continue to advance, cities need reliable energy to power their growth. Utah is at the forefront of energy innovation, positioning itself as a national and global leader in energy technologies. GOEO will leverage private, state, and federal funding and utilize cross-agency support to ensure energy growth supports long-term economic stability in Utah. Through initiatives like Operation Gigawatt, the state is paving the way toward a cleaner, more secure energy future.”
Utah has earned repeated top rankings for its economic outlook and business-friendly environment. In order to secure its economic future, the state will need to expand the diverse energy portfolio that has brought such prosperity for decades, and the GOEO and OED partnership will connect innovation and investment in ways that benefit the state for generations.
