Interview with Hunter Sebresos, President of Bacon.work
Although Hunter Sebresos could not have foreseen the recent coronavirus pandemic, his timing could not have been better. His company is busy filling the essential needs of many workers looking for additional employment opportunities.
Sebresos is CEO of Bacon.work, a Provo, Utah-based company that matches workers with individuals looking to work a side gig. Some people call it the “Uber” of side-hustles. However, the company offers more employment opportunities than just driving. His mission is to help businesses and workers get through the current economic crisis by providing them with opportunities they need for hourly work, both immediate and long-term.
Bacon encourages workers in the gig economy to find employment opportunities by downloading its app. It’s temp services provide job seekers in Utah and Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas, with opportunities in these uncertain times. The app allows companies to post details about jobs quickly, using their phone. Within minutes, qualified workers get an alert about the opportunity and can apply with the click of a button.

After the worker completes their shift, rate the worker’s performance. Workers are paid automatically.
What gives you the most personal fulfillment?
I find great satisfaction in helping people navigate the challenges of balancing everyday life while trying to find work. Numerous employees start with Bacon doing shift work, and now they are working full-time.
What are you most grateful for?
I am grateful to be involved with a nonprofit that teaches entrepreneurship to people in the Philippines, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia and elsewhere. This innovative program, the Academy for Creating Enterprise, is being adopted around the world.
What drew you to Utah?
I grew up in Utah. Even though I have traveled around the world, there is no other place I would rather live.
What do you like most about living in Utah?
I enjoy all of the spectacular outdoor activities in our amazing state. Utahns are very kind and generous. I’m not sure why everyone doesn’t want to live here, but I am thankful they are not all moving here.
What do you like most about doing business in Utah?
Utah residents are hard-working and honest people with a knack for innovation. The network I formed in Utah is incredible.
What advice do you have for individuals considering starting a business, or relocating their business, to Utah?
Know going in that the Utah business market is not exactly like other markets. It’s a unique environment and represents a distinct culture.
What is your primary challenge of doing business in Utah?
Compensation is my primary challenge. Although Utah is making some inroads, some salaries are still lower when you compare state-to-state. Even though the pay is lower, the competition for talented people is intense. And, Utah’s cost of living tends to be lower than most other places. The best and brightest want to be here.
What is your business philosophy?
My business philosophy revolves around helping others see what underdogs can do. My mission is to help individuals get access to opportunities and show the world how much potential they have.

I once participated in an amateur boxing match. I got knocked out.
