The pursuit of targeted treatment therapies is more important than ever, and Logan, Utah, is one of three sites where Cytiva manufactures cell culture media and serum used to make cells grow and multiply. Collection, filtration, and processing are essential techniques in cell culture manufacturing and in making therapeutics. The company provides researchers and bio manufacturers with high-quality products needed to quickly produce cost-effective solutions that benefit patients with medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s, coronavirus, the flu, and various cancers.
Cytiva Is Investing in Cell Culture Media
There’s a growing global demand for cell culture media in both liquid and powder forms. Along with its sister operating company within Danaher (Cytiva’s parent company), Pall Corporation, Cytiva is investing $1.5 billion globally over the next two years to expand its operations to meet these needs. Over $400 million will be invested to expand operations in the United States, United Kingdom, and Austria.
“We will shortly complete a new automated bottling line and have major projects in play that will significantly increase our capacity, shorten lead times to customers, and continue to provide employment opportunities for our community,” said Meehan.
The company plans to double cell culture media production at its Utah site. About 270,000 square feet of manufacturing lines, distribution hubs, and clean rooms — all employing local talent — will be added to Cytiva’s Cache Valley site. Combined with the acquisition of Intermountain Life Sciences, a manufacturer of liquid cell culture media and buffers based in Salt Lake City, customers receiving products manufactured in Logan will result in shorter delivery lead times.
Giving Back Is in Cytiva’s DNA
“We believe in supporting and giving back to our local community, particularly when it comes to science and health,” added Meehan. “For the third successive year, Cytiva is sponsoring the Top of Utah marathon. In 2021, more than 60 Cytiva volunteers came out to support the race, from the start to the finish line. The site also completed its fourth year of hosting veterans and first responders from all over Cache Valley with a free steak lunch.”
