Maybe your aspirations aren’t to make millions. Maybe you’d like to just make a living doing what you love. The 10th annual Governor’s Economic Summit, sponsored by Zions Bank and presented by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), taking place on April 15, 2016, is pleased to announce a panel of local entrepreneurs examining all things business – main street business. It’s easy to focus on technology companies for innovation but often it’s bread and butter businesses such as repair shops, salons, restaurants and clothing boutiques that fuel the local economy.
“Think of all the businesses around us,” said Steve Bain, co-founder of Simply Mac. “There are maybe five big names that come to mind, but what about the thousands of individual, small companies that service our everyday needs? Find a reason to follow your passion, and learn more about starting your own business.”
Moderated by Mike Glauser, executive director of the Clark Center for Entrepreneurship in the Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University, this panel provides expertise and tools of the trade to equip anyone interested in starting a small business the tips required to start and succeed.
“There are 28 million small businesses in the U.S. and they employ more than half of us in this country,” said Glauser. “We need to view entrepreneurship as the light bulb that illuminates the U.S. economy, and not something for just a few well-funded brands. This panel of experts will teach us how to build successful companies, obtain financial security and achieve our individual dreams.”
The 10th Annual Utah Economic Summit, hosted by Gov. Gary R. Herbert, will celebrate and advance innovation across every Utah industry. Business and community leaders, as well as government officials, students, and educators are encouraged to attend. The event will be held April 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City.
