This article is part of a series featuring Utah-based companies and what they’re doing during the coronavirus pandemic.

When Janice Boes faced a potentially devastating business downturn amid COVID-19, it didn’t did stop the determined entrepreneur. Instead, she pivoted her business operations and looked for a silver lining in the thundercloud.

Pierpont Place and Premier Event Services are award-winning, full-service event companies with approximately 65 employees, contract workers and vendor partners. The businesses support a wide array of events such as weddings, private events, fundraisers, conferences and corporate parties. The businesses offer one-of-a-kind event design, full-service event and wedding planning services in its urban chic event venue and is a one-stop-shop for its clients’ special occasion needs.

“When the coronavirus pandemic tumbleweed started to grow and build, I put on my memory cap from the 2008/09 recession,” said Janice Boes, founder of Pierpont Place and Premier Event Services. “I remembered that my saving grace and a key element for staying in the black was my substantial pivot of our business model.”

Boes and her team responded to the economic downturn by creating a “Beat the COVID-19 Blues With Some Colorful Bloom” marketing campaign. The campaign offered fresh, custom one-of-a-kind custom-designed arrangements, delivered to customers’ doorsteps for only $45. Customers could also “pay it forward” by adding a floral arrangement for $40 for a first responder, essential, health care, or hospital worker. Pierpont Place is also “paying it forward” by donating an arrangement for every 19 pieces sold.

During the last two months, we delivered over 185 arrangements, and in return, we received happy smiles and gratitude and have brought overwhelming joy to our community,” Boes notes. “Little did I know how healthy and constructive this campaign would be for our staff, as well as it provided work, distraction, creativity and internal joy. It has been so much more than survival.”

Pierpont Place and Premier Event Services are planning on hosting an upcoming concert series to benefit Utah small businesses, local artists and charities — a true trifecta that will support and hopefully continue to bring joy to the Salt Lake City community.
