The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released its Contract Solicitation for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program with applications due October 28, 2021 by 3 p.m. MT.

This SBIR contract solicitation encourages scientific and technical innovation in areas specifically identified by the NIH/CDC awarding components. HHS invites research proposals from small business concerns with the capability to conduct research and development (R&D) in any of the health-related topic areas and to commercialize the results of that R&D.

Technology areas of interest range from chronic and infectious diseases, aging, developmental disabilities and others. Various topics allow for submission of proposals for only Phase I or Phase II, or through the ‘Direct to Phase II’ process. Some topics allow for ‘Fast Track’ proposals, which include both a Phase I proposal and a Phase II proposal. Please see contract solicitation for more detail.

Important Dates:

  • August 12, 2021 – 11 a.m. MT:  HHS SBIR Contract RFP Informational Webinar will cover the SBIR program, the new contract solicitation, and contract topics.
  • October 28, 2021 – 3 p.m. MT: Submission deadline; proposals must be received by October 28, 2021, 3 p.m. MT
