Pete Codella joins GOED as marketing and communications director

The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) is pleased to announce Pete Codella as its new marketing and communications director.

Before joining GOED, Codella worked in public relations and marketing communications with experience in higher education, the private sector, and as a consultant and entrepreneur. He has taught public relations and social media courses at Utah Valley University, UNLV, UCI Extension and the University of Utah. He is Accredited in public relations (APR) and a former local chapter president and district chair for the Public Relations Society of America. He has also been a local chapter president for the International Association of Business Communicators and Social Media Club.

“With Pete’s extensive background in communications, he’ll be a great asset to the GOED team,” said Val Hale, executive director of GOED. “We’re excited to    have him lead our marketing communications efforts and help support GOED’s mission of driving economic development in Utah.”

As communications director, some of Codella’s responsibilities include providing communications to both internal and external stakeholders, developing strategic marketing and communication plans, utilizing research and analysis to measure success against objectives, and working collaboratively with GOED’s executive team, directors and partners.

Codella received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the University of Utah. Codella and his wife, a high school special education teacher, have two teenage children and an ausiedoodle, and reside in South Jordan, Utah.

Codella replaces Aimee Edwards who now serves as GOED strategic outreach and media relations director. In addition to Edwards’ continued role on the GOED marketing communications team, she’ll help with various projects, including GOED’s Keep the Customer initiative, International Trade and Diplomacy and others.
