According to the Milken Institute, Provo-Orem, Utah, is No. 1 on the 2018 Best-Performing Cities index, maintaining its rank over larger more established “tech metros.”
Utah’s business-friendly climate provides a great place for startup companies to make their mark on their industry while expanding and encouraging investments from large technology firms like Adobe and Wavetronix.
The metropolitan Provo-Orem area remains number one in this year’s ranking. Rounding out the top 25 and representing Utah was Salt Lake City at number 10, and Ogden at number 21.
The index looks at job growth from 2013 to 2018 and compares 5-year and 1-year rates in the state. The data looks at overall job growth, the rise in wages and salaries, and relative high tech GDP growth.
Due to the tight labor market, growth is slowing slightly, decreasing its lead on other ranking cities, but Utah holds steady at number one.
In the Small City category, St. George ranked as the number two small city in America.
