uenThe United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $469,300 to the Utah Education and Telehealth Network (UETN) through its Rural Development Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Grant Program.

This program is specifically designed to assist rural communities in acquiring distance learning and telemedical technologies so that local teachers and medical service providers who serve rural residents can establish interactive video conference links to teachers, medical professionals and other needed expertise located at distances too far to access otherwise.

UETN plans to use this funding to connect 15,875 Utah students in 46 rural schools and communities to distance learning services. Some of the schools which are located in rural cities and towns include Beaver, Kanab and Park Valley. Funding will also be used to establish distance learning services for the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation in Ibapah.
