The Utah Industry and Innovation Center congratulates Elphel, Inc. who recently received notification that they are being awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract from the Air Force branch of the U.S. Department of Defense.

The $50,000 award comes through AFVentures, part of AFWERX, the U.S. Air Force program that fosters innovation. Elphel’s project will develop 3D autonomous navigation for vehicles to be used in all-weather, day/night and off-road situations. Successful completion of this project allows the company to compete for a Phase II award of $750,000.

Elphel received a prior SBIR Phase I award from the Air Force to develop a helmet-mounted 3D perception system with machine learning capabilities to increase situational awareness.

The Utah Industry and Innovation Center is pleased to have supported Elphel with their contract applications and with the outcome for this Utah small business to continue their important work.
