The Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), in partnership with the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the University of Utah, encourages business to apply for the 2020 Utah Economic and Energy Summit Startup Pitch competition.

The Utah Economic and Energy Summit is the state’s premier event for community leaders, executives, and decision-makers. The Summit is an ideal venue to gather tools for professional and personal success. It delivers exclusive insights on Utah’s accomplishments and provides insights on how you can get involved and contribute to one of the nation’s most resource-rich states and best-performing economies.

For the first time, the 2020 Utah Economic and Energy Summit, will include a Startup Pitch competition sponsored by Clarke Capital Partners. The Startup Pitch is a speed pitch challenge where entrepreneurs pitch a panel of judges their best ideas. After a qualification round at Lassonde, three final contestants will present their ideas at the Summit to a panel of experts, including Governor Herbert, and audience members.

“We’re excited to bring the Startup Pitch competition to the Utah Economic and Energy Summit for the first time,” said Val Hale, GOED’s executive director. “Utah is full of entrepreneurial spirit, and we look forward to seeing what three finalists will compete and what their business models offer.”

All Startup Pitch finalists will compete for $10,000 in prizes. The people’s choice cash prize comes with bragging rights as the top new venture idea from Governor Herbert’s 2020 Utah Economic and Energy Summit. The finalists also receive free admission to the Economic and Energy Summit.

The competition is open to all Utah-based startups that meet specific criteria. The deadline to apply is Sept. 20, 2020. To learn more about eligibility, additional program details, and submit applications, visit lassonde.utah.edu/pitch or utaheconomicandenergysummit.com.
