Utah’s Outdoor Products Companies
Live, Work and Play
Utah’s outdoor industries have found the state to be a particularly attractive place to locate or start their business. They enjoy Utah’s strong economic advantages such as a skilled and educated workforce, a low cost of doing business and a business friendly climate. Utah’s four season mountain and active lifestyle add considerably to the appeal. Utah also offers the perfect research and development proving ground for outdoor products. The close access of outdoor recreation areas provides plenty of hands on product development can be done where the products are being designed and manufactured. (See Salomon’s video below) The city of Ogden offers additional testing facilities for outdoor products such as skis, bikes and even fabrics with an open-circuit style wind tunnel for testing aerodynamics.
Not only is Utah a great place to beta test outdoor products, it offers easy access to business, political, education and social contacts. Best of all, Utah is one of the few places where one can ski, climb or bike and meet with clients all in the same day.
“When we came to Utah, Salomon wasn’t as known for its trail-running products. I credit the trail system above Ogden for helping push that aspect of our line. Our employees talk more about the trails than the skiing, although they love that too, but I didn’t expect that. There are a dozen trailheads right near our office.”

I looked at cities all over the west with the goal of maintaining outdoor lifestyle while saving money on cost of living and cost of doing business over our previous location in California. The State of Utah and particularly the City of Ogden were extremely welcoming and very helpful to us as we planned our relocation. I was really impressed with the Ogden City Mayor’s Office focus on outdoor recreation, particularly as it related to the cycling industry. We’ve found Ogden to be a great place to raise a family and the outdoor recreation opportunities for cycling, hiking skiing to be among the best anywhere.
